    uhm... that's a joke too.
I understand now why they keep you behind the camera.
Wow, another joke! Next time I'll preface these to make it easier for the humor-impaired.

My mom always said, "If you have to explain a joke .... it's not a joke!", that and "don't touch the meatball unless you have room for the pasta too".

Good for him! If ever I am in Philly, I will make it a point to seek out that restaurant, if it doesn't get firebombed by some moronic liberal first... As for the city councilman who is attacking him, he oughtta be recalled. What an idiot!

Anyone that knows Philly knows Gino's!! He perfected the Cheese Steak Sandwich! I don't think this will hurt business unless it gets political, meaning the local authorities get involved

There are plenty of liberals that want the immigration issue solved. There are plenty of liberals that want people in America to speak English. This is a bi-partisan issue for the citizens, and political for the politicians. And even Bush doesn't support the Conservative thoughts on this.
    Liberals are NEVER happy.

Laura Ingraham interviewed the owner of Gino's this A.M. Sounds like a nice guy to me. His parents came from Italy. He said that he started this last Novemeber, doesn't know why all the fuss now. Also, he said that his positive response has been about 95%, and he hasn't had any problems with foreigners expecting to be treated differently, except the one's that speak spanish.

He does have a point. I resent getting phone books in spanish, calling a recorded message with spanish options, at the bank, the market etc. They do seem to be the only foreign speaking people here that are totally catered to.

No, it wasn't. It was annoying, trite and pseudo-intellectual bilge, much like everything you post here.

I wonder why he "seemed" like a jerk on a TV interview? Couldn't be because the interview was edited to make him seem that way. Nah.. couldn't be. The media would never do that.

English is our national language. English is basically the closest thing the world has to a universal language. Coddling illegal immigrants by adapting to their least-common-denominator language preferences is idiotic and culturally suicidal. To be honest, if I'm going to be forced to learn a new language, I'd rather it be Chinese, German, Japanese, Russian, French, in that order. We, as a nation, have almost no vested long-term interest in learning Spanish.

Spanish is an inert language. Not dead, certainly, but those that speak it as their only language hold very little influence over the world at large, and probably never will. Their economies are stagnant (Mexico, Central and South America, and uh.. oh yeah, Spain), if not dying, and they show no signs of ever rising above their historically consistent malaise. In fact, Central and South America's periodic flirtation with Marxism (Chavez, Castro, etc.) and perinnial socialism are a clear indication that they will always be the pawn of larger nation-states (China, Russia, Japan, Germany). In short, adapting to Spanish-speaking cultures is a short-term fix at best, and a long-term cultural disaster at worst.

Learn to speak English, or pay the consequences of remaining on the fringe of society.

I know Geno is famous for his cheese-steaks, but cheeze whiz? ::gag:: Mozzarella or provolone, people!

Back on topic: It's a great sign. If you can't even attempt to speak the language at an establishment, or at least point to menu items in an attempt to communicate don't expect service.

Can you imagine going to another country, speaking only English, without making some attempt to communicate to your waiter in a language he understands? Demanding that you be heard only in English? Even IF he got your order correct, you can bet he spit in it on the way to your table.

oh yeah I know the tv people did this to make him seem like that, but come on he is saying I don't like people who do this certain thing so from now on if you do it you won't be served, that's what I define as a jerk in any manner (whether he is right or wrong in doing this)

but seriously it is his business and anyone looking for big government to come down on this guy deserves to be beaten wiht oranges (any fruit will do), just like if any business seeks to cater to spanish speaking people with either signs in spanish or service in spanish I see absolutely problem with that either, because believe it or not it does NOT mean that it's the end of the world
