    Political Police Action?

Why are American consumers targeted if they buy guitars from (Republican contributor) manufacturers, rather than untracked Chinese ones? It would just be too weird to fathom, if it weren't the soup du jour.

The Gibson Company response so far...

This is scary. Apparently this is tied to a "Lacey Act" law passed a few years ago about importing rosewood and ebony woods from Madagascar. There's a rainforest is in Madagascar and it's all legal jumble to me.

This Lacey Act also implicates unsuspecting people who buy Gibson guitars from their local music instrument vendor. The Union and environmentalists are involved in this some way. Leave it to Obama, Holder and their Union thug friends.

The Lacey Act combats trafficking in “illegal” wildlife, fish, and plants. The 2008 Farm Bill (the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008), effective May 22, 2008, amended the Lacey Act by expanding its protection to a broader range of plants and plant products. The Lacey Act now, among other things, makes it unlawful, beginning December 15, 2008, to import certain plants and plant products without an import declaration. This page will serve as a clearinghouse for all information related to the implementation of the Lacey Act declaration requirement and will be updated promptly as new information becomes available.

Thanks for that, Isis! You're right, Gibson's CEO, Henry Juszkiewicz, says it was the lumber unions that pushed through this act, even though there is no rosewood grown here. But the situation here is even worse than that. Gibson has all of the import papers duly done (see video @ 26:10). Also Henry notes that someone (in this administration) should stand up "for everyone" - not special interest lobbies, not politics. A very telling note, that.

Hope he doesn't have any sort of media gig, or he'll be canned by Monday.

What surprises me is how little this administration tries to hide it. How easy would it have been to save face on this? I've heard people from other guitar companies have said "this is bad because we all use that wood," but they weren't thrown in on the suit. I'm pretty sure if my wife got a speeding ticket and we tried to contest it with me saying i do that speed all the time on the road and never get pulled over, i'd have my own citation to worry about.

Which party do the other manufacturers donate to?
